Eutelsat Communications ha annunciato la scelta di Eads Astrium per costruire il satellite di trasmissione Hot Bird 9. Il nuovo satellite sarà lanciato nel 2008 e inserito nel gruppo dei satelliti posizionati a 13 gradi est. Hot Bird 9 si basa sulla piattaforma Eurostat E3000, gestirà fino a 64 transponders in banda Ku ad una potenza di carico utile di 11 Kw.
